Hi everyone!
Something exciting happened recently. I was reached out to by news anchor, Lara Bryn from CBS 6 News in New York to do an interview about Empower Her Care Kits! When I first saw the message I was excited that they reached out. Lara had heard about my project and wanted to talk to me about period poverty, how I started the kits, and overall what I wanted to achieve with my project.
I was a little nervous because I had never been on an actual news segment before. But I also felt excited. I knew this was a really important opportunity that could help spread awareness. Talking to the news made me feel like my voice could reach even more people than I imagined. I wanted to speak clearly, be myself, and represent everyone who doesn’t always have what they need for their period. I also wanted to remind other kids that you don’t have to be a grown-up to make a difference—you just have to care, and then do something.
After the interview, I felt so proud. Nervous, still? Yeah. But mostly proud. I hope someone sees the story and thinks, “Wow, maybe I can help too.”
I’ll post the video when it comes out! Thank you for cheering me on and believing in me. This was a big moment for Empower Her Care Kits—and it’s just the beginning!
Stay kind + stay empowered,
Ava
