I Got a Letter Back from Senator Neil Breslin

Wednesday, February 28, 2024

I never expected to get a letter back from a senator, but that actually happened!

A little while ago, I sent a letter to Senator Neil Breslin asking about period products in schools. I wanted to know more about what was being done to make sure students had access to what they need according to New York State Law. I wasn’t sure if he would even see my letter, but he did and he wrote back!

When I opened his response, it felt really cool to know that someone in government took the time to read what I had to say. It made me realize that even though I’m a kid, my voice matters.

Getting this letter back showed me that people are paying attention, and that if you ask questions and speak up, someone will listen. I’m excited to keep learning and finding ways to make a difference.

200 Kits and Counting!

Saturday, February 24, 2024

I just hit a huge milestone... 200 Empower Her Care Kits are officially done!

When I started making these kits, I never really thought about how many I would make. I kept upping the goal when I could and now, there are 200 kits that have been made. That’s 200 times someone won’t have to worry about not having supplies.

It takes a lot of work to put these together with sorting products, packing each kit, and making sure they’re ready to be used. But every time I see the growing pile of finished kits, I know it’s all worth it.

I’m excited to keep going and see how many more I can make.

My First Kits Dropped Off!

Thursday, February 15, 2024

Hi everyone!

I finally brought my first kits into my school. I packed as many kits could fit into this container that would make it easy for storage. I put my poster on the outside of it and then it was done. Nurse Holly was really nice and supporitve. She told me how much these kits would help students. That made me feel really proud because it meant that my idea was actually making a difference.

That first drop-off was just the beginning. Now, my kits are going in other schools next week and helping other places in the community. .

If you’re ever thinking about starting something to help others, just go for it. You never know how big it might become!

Thanks for reading! More updates soon!

Celebrating 100 Kits and Counting!

Saturday, February 3, 2024

Hey everyone! Ava here with another exciting update on my Empower Her Care Kits journey. I'm really excited to share with you all the amazing news that we've reached a major milestone: 100 kits! When I first started Empower Her Care Kits, I never imagined that we would be able to make such a big impact, but with the support of my family and my community, we've been able to turn my goals into reality.

I'm so excited to announce that we received enough donations to purchase all the products needed to put together our first 100 care kits! Can you believe it? One hundred kits to help one hundred menstruators feel supported and empowered during their periods.

Putting together these kits has been such a cool experience for me. It's been a lot of work to get this idea going but I feel good now that we've got 100 kits completed. My mom and dad have helped me assemble and my sister Olivia, too. Seeing the finished products, and knowing that they will soon be in the hands of menstruators who need them makes it all worth it.

Reaching this milestone wouldn't have been possible without all of you who have supported Empower Her Care Kits along the way. Whether you donated money, shared my story, or simply cheered us on from the sidelines, your support means has felt so good to have.

I'm really excited to make more kits and my new goal is to have 200 or more out in the schools in my district and the surrounding areas. I keep reminding myself that maybe this will help close the gap on period poverty a little bit more. I know it's not enough for the entire world but I'm hoping it makes a difference for menstruators in my community.
